Michael E. Biggins
Michael Biggins is North America’s most widely published translator of contemporary Slovenian literature into English. His translations of novels by Vladimir Bartol (Scala House Press, 2004; North Atlantic Press, 2007), Drago Jančar (Northwestern University Press, 1998 and 2001, and Dalkey Archive Press, 2011), collections of poetry by Tomaž Šalamun (White Pine Press, 1997; Twisted Spoon Press, 2001; Saturnalia Press, 2004; Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2011), and a Holocaust memoir by Slovenian-Italian author Boris Pahor (Harcourt, 1995; Dalkey Archive, 2010) have met with critical praise in the New Yorker, Publishers’ Weekly, the Slavic and East European Journal, the Columbus Post-Dispatch, and elsewhere. He serves as Slavic, Baltic and East European studies librarian at the University of Washington Libraries, Seattle, and teaches Russian and Slovenian in the UW Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.
