The edition Intelektuelle über Slowenien heute offers a representative overview of Slovene literary production of the nineties in German, reflecting a politically turbulent time characterized by the efforts of numerous Slovene intellectuals. The first part focuses on now “legendary” interviews with established authors who at the time shaped the Slovene literary and political landscape, among them Boris A. Novak, Milan Dekleva, Tomaž Šalamun and Dimitrij Rupel. The second part presents passages from literary works (prose, essays and poetry), showcasing the diversity of the Slovene artistic output throughout the nineties. Peeks are offered into the contemplations of Boris Pahor, Marjan Rožanc, Marjan Tomšič and Andrej Brvar. Excerpts from the works are accompanied by essays on the authors’ opus and context of artistry contributed by leading Slovene literary critics and historians.
