Alexander Sitzmann, b. 1974 in Stuttgart, studied Scandinavian and Slavic studies in Vienna, where he researches and teaches at the university. Since 1999 he has been working as a freelance literary translator from Bulgarian, Macedonian and from Scandinavian languages. In 2004, received an honorary award from the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture for his translations; in 2016, he received the Austrian National Prize for Literary Translation; in 2020, the Berlin Theatre Award Brücke. In 2020/21, he received a Landis & Gyr Foundation residency in Zug, Switzerland.
